Recently I had a memory from a summer 30 years ago when my son first began to speak in sentences. With the warm weather, our windows were open to the outside and, first thing in the morning, Jeff would run from window to window with greetings of "Good morning neighborhood!" in his loudest voice. This memory asserted itself as a wisdom teaching of joy, presence and practice. Jeff's inner compass propelled him into this greeting, fueled by his natural delight for life and his innate knowing of inter-connectedness. He would awake happy and ready to share his happiness with everyone, those he could see, and those he could not see, but trusted were there, feeling embraced by community beyond his family. Expressing his full presence in the moment, Jeff engaged in his morning welcome repeatedly; it was a summer of exuberant salutes to our neighbors. Now grown, Jeff continues to express exuberant greetings to everyone he meets and shares joy wherever he goes. As life has woven our years together Jeff continues to be my teacher just by being who he is, living with joy and presence.
